While the David Wills House is important simply for its age and location, its true significance comes from its one-time visitor Abraham Lincoln, who stayed in this attorney's home in 1863 while he fine-tuned his Gettysburg Address. Two rooms within the historic home have been restored to how they would have looked at this landmark time: David Wills' office and the guest bedroom where Lincoln slept and worked. Other rooms within the home contain exhibits relating to the Battle of Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Address and the effects of both upon the town and the nation. Run by the Gettysburg National Military Park branch of the National Park Service, the home is located not in the park but in downtown Gettysburg just blocks north of the Shriver House Museum.
